In the long history of Spanish arts and fine crafts, the years 1746 to 1833, in particular, witnessed a remarkable surge in the creation of masterworks in all artistic genres The great 18th-and early 19th-century architects erected buildings ranging from grand royal palaces and gardens to smaller-scaled, intricate "casitas" (country оеъещ cottages) Painters, including Mengs, Tiepolo, Van Loo, Giaquinto, and the incomparable Francisco de Goya, filled these residences with magnificent murals, portraits, still-lifes and landscapes Goya created, as well, the delightful cartoons to be crafted into lavish embroidered tapestries depicting landscapes and scenes from daily life This was the era of the Royal Factories and Workshops, created by Charles III to support the education of Spain's finest artisans and craftsmen, as well as to decorate the royal homes with the finest art objects in porcelain, wood, ivory, bronze, silver and crystal It was a time that approached a cultural pinnacle; Spanish artists looked to their own nation, as well as to Europe and Asia, for inspiration, and thereby put their stamp on the reigning styles of the day Everything created conveyed a certain magic, as part of the apex of Spain's monarchic civilization The Patrimonio Nacional and the Museo del Prado, originally created to house Spain's unique heritage, have joined together with the Mississippi Commission for International Cultural Exchange to bring together a splendid collection of these royal treasures, many of which have never been seen before outside of Spain Through the enormous efforts of the Commission and of the Spanish institutions' directors, curators, staff and restoration craftsmen, these precious paintings and art objects are being presented in Jackson, Mississippi - where Spain once ruled - as a showcase of Royal Spain's artistic glory As Commissioner of the Exhibition Javier Morales Vallejo, of the Patrimonio Nacional, has stated, "The Majesty of Spain" is vibrant evidence of "how the architects, painters, sculptors, and artisans of furniture, porcelains, bronzes, crystal and tapestries formed and operated as a magnificent whole, perfectly harmonized to grace the locales of power " The highlights of the exhibition are the recreation of four Palace rooms - from Aranjuez, El Pardo, and Madrid - which are reproduced in their entirety to exact standards, revealing how art and architecture, artifact and space, worked together to reflect this majestic era of Royal Spain To grace these rooms, Dr Morales, Co-commissioner Leticia Ruiz Gomez of the Museo del Prado and their colleagues have selected a brilliant oeuvre of the Spanish kings and queens' personal objects Included are many masterworks: Francisco de Goya's luminous "The Parasol" and "Portrait of Charles III", Anton Rafael Mengs' haunting "Christ on the Cross" and Giambattista Tiepolo's renowned "Saint Peter of Alcantara" Among the decorative art treasures presented are ancient busts and statues; fine furniture of exotic woods and marble; personal silver from Queen Isabel of Braganza's dressing table; a stunning collection of rare royal clocks; and a newly restored Royal Gondola, which has been lavished in gold and paints scientifically matched to the craft's original colors In this accompanying catalogue, "The Majesty of Spain", the exhibition is given perspective through essays and annotations authored by the directors and curators of the Patrimonio Nacional and Museo del Prado as well as by contributing scholars, including Historian Silvia L Hilton, who brings to light the long relationship between Spain and the United States, a relationship now reinforced by this once-in-a-lifetime event "The Majesty of Spain" is the third exhibition presented by the Mississippi Commission for International Cultural Exchange The first two, Palaces of St Petersburg: Russian Imperial Style and Splendors of Versailles, were tremendous successes, attracting more than 825,000 visitors As a particular tribute to its latest enterprise, the present King and Queen of Spain, His Majesty Juan Carlos I and Her Majesty Queen Sofia, will honor "The Majesty of Spain" with a royal visit For everyone involved, from the Patrimonio Nacional and the Museo del Prado to the Mississippi Commission, and to the many viewers and readers experiencing these treasures for the first time, "The Majesty of Spain" will be a truly unforgettable event Иллюстрации.  huggingИздательство: Mississippi Commission for International Cultural Exchange, 2001 г Мягкая обложка, 256 стр Язык: Английский Формат: 230x300 Мелованная бумага, Цветные иллюстрации.
